Another post registration GVM Upgrade. This one by DMW out off Toowoomba.
Earlier this year I dropped a video after having been weighed in travel ready configuration. That alarmed me a bit, sooo heavy over the rear axle. No, I did not travel in that configuration it was a "worse case" scenario.
This GVM upgrade takes me to 4499kg (2900 kg on rear axle) from 3950kg (an ARB OME package).
This is as "big" as I can take the old girl without getting into heavy vehicle licensing and registration issues.
I had, initially, been told, and hoped, that the rear axle rating would be 3000kg. But that was not to be :(. The diff centre, a DWIZ product, is rated to 3020kg.
So what did I physically have replaced by DMW:
Diff housing (with track correction)
Axle set
Rear leaf packs
Rear remote res shocks
Trailing arm bushes
Front coil springs
Front remonte res shockies
Steering dampener
Panhard rod and bushes
The package included chassis strengthening and engineering.
What else is required:
Load rated tyres (load rating 121 or higher)
Load rated rims (1500kg or higher)
Braided brake lines
Heavy duty airbag man airbags
Marks 4x4 hydraulic brake booster
What did it cost:
Our fit out was circa $15k. But we had some of the necessary kit already fitted.
What would it ordinarily cost:
DMW package this GVM upgrade at circa $26k (excluding rims and tyres).
I found that sourcing my own rims and tyres was cheaper that DMW, by hundreds of dollars. Sure, for convenience and if you have the loose coins then by all means DMW away. By the way, DMW would not "negotiate" price on the rime/tyre package, the response I got was "the price is the price".
Customer Service
Here I think DMW could certainly improve. That was my experience so I cannot say that my experience was the usual or even normal (god I hope it is not). A little bit about that at the end of this vid.
Workmanship
It has been less than a month since we collected the cruiser and the kit really has not been through anything other than blacktop in that time. Later this month off to Fraser so I'll give the city a bit of a run then.
But, for present purposes, good workmanship for sure. I could not find any "butchered" workmanship. Surprised about 2 things though, DMW re-used:
1. the old shock absorber bolts and washers; and
2. the OME LSPV (load sensing proportioning valve) spacers for the inch lift.
Just about everywhere else DMW used new kit, bolts etc etc.
