In this episode, we arrive in Rotterdam on King’s Day, joining the lively orange-filled festivities celebrating King Willem-Alexander’s birthday. We then view the unique Cube Houses and visit the vibrant Market Hall for some tasty treats, then board SS Rotterdam, a former Holland-America Line flagship turned hotel and museum. In Delft, we exploreRoyal Delft Museum, home of 17th-century world-famous blue pottery, and visit Nieuwe Kerk, where William of Orange, father of the Dutch nation—was buried in 1584. A festive, historic visit! This series covers: Ponta Delgada, Azores We visit the beautiful Seven Cities Crater Lake and a pineapple farm, learning about the traditional method of using greenhouses. Brest, France We venture out to the Brest Naval Monument, honoring the sacrifices of French sailors during World War I and II. The monument offers panoramic views of the harbor and a deep connection to naval history. Portland, England We visit Abbotsbury Swannery and Gardens, home to over 600 wild swans, and beautiful historical gardens, with a history dating back to the 11th century. Le Havre, France We explore the WWII Memorial in Le Havre, France, honoring those who fought and died during the war. The memorial is located in a city that was heavily bombed during WWII, and later reconstructed. Dover, England We explore Dover Castle, England’s largest castle, and dating back to the 11th century. We enjoyed the stunning views, and rich history as a military stronghold and wartime headquarters.
