You will notice on social media that people (especially first-time Cruisers) often ask do they need travel insurance?
There's only one answer and I'll let you know what that is!
One thing that I noticed is that when people do ask questions on social media about cruising
(don't put a question on social media if you don't actually want to hear the answer) because the answer may differ from what you want to hear.
I've been lambasted quite severely for my feelings about travel insurance.
Should you get cruise travel insurance? The answer is YES.
If you are traveling anywhere regardless of its land content or a cruise content, you need travel insurance.
End of story.
No arguments.
First Time cruisers, you need travel insurance.
There are many layers to travel insurance.
One of them is to be lost luggage, could be interrupted the journey, it could be if you medically getting sick, or needing medical assistance (breaking a leg, having a stroke, getting sunburned Etc)
People die on cruise ships all the time. What happens to your body if it needs to be repatriated to your family?
Australian Medicare does not cover you on a cruise ship.
A ship is a flag of convenience, registered in the Bahamas.
You were in international waters, and your Medicare cover does not cover you.
A few important things to remember is to buy your travel insurance
When you buy your insurance don't wait until just before you get onto your cruise.
Buy your travel insurance when you book your cruise.
If, for some reason you do need to cancel, your policy might not cover it.
The other thing to remember is to make a claim if you have a pre-existing condition.
It will not be covered for existing conditions that need to be disclosed when purchasing the travel insurance.
Unfortunately for cruisers, if you make a medical claim and it's related to something to do with alcohol, you will not be covered. That's for anybody traveling anywhere, making those really dumb judgments and choices after consuming alcohol will not be covered by your travel insurance.
Read the product disclosure statement PDS and prove me wrong on that one.
