Vienna Christmas Markets on a River Cruise — What You Need to Know

Today I’m sharing our incredible day in Vienna, Austria during our Christmas market river cruise with AmaWaterways. Over the course of the day, we visited four different Christmas markets, each one unique and beautiful, and I’m sharing what you need to know if Vienna is on your Christmas market wish list. We started the morning with a guided city tour that took us right into the heart of Vienna, including time at St. Stephen’s Cathedral and a walk down one of Vienna’s most iconic streets. After lunch back on the ship, we headed out again to Schönbrunn Palace, where one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Europe is set against the palace itself. That evening, we had a choice between a concert or visiting the Rathaus Christmas Market, and I chose the market — absolutely magical once the lights came on. I also share tips on how easy it is to explore on your own from a river ship if you want to mix palace visits with the Christmas markets.
