This is the first cruise of Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas from its new base in Sydney, Australia. Her twin, the Voyager of the Seas, has been based in Sydney for the Australian summer and is a very popular ship, to the extent that Royal Caribbean has added a second of these huge liners. The Explorer OTS is seen here leaving from the Overseas Passenger Terminal.
There was a historic rendezvous in Sydney Harbour the previous day when the Voyager was leaving and the Explorer arriving. They exchanged salutes mid-harbour, each emitting several blasts on her deep, throaty ships' horn.
The Explorer was the largest cruise ship on the seas when she was launched in 2000; 138,000 tonnes (gross), 3,000+ passengers, 1,180 crew (according to Wikipedia this vessel accommodates 4,029 passengers, whereas her twin only 3,100 ???).
