Our cruise itinerary changed after rough seas forced the ship to divert… and suddenly we had an unexpected port stop in Honfleur, France.
At first we weren’t sure what to expect from this unscheduled cruise port, but it turned out to be one of the most charming places we’ve visited on this trip.
In this video we explore the beautiful harbour town of Honfleur in Normandy, wandering through its medieval streets, markets and historic buildings. We also share practical advice for cruise passengers arriving here — including how to get from the port into town, whether it’s worth taking the shuttle bus, and the best walking routes to see the views over Honfleur.
Along the way we visit the Eugène Boudin Museum, discover some incredible Norman pastries in a local café, and climb one of the walking routes above the town for spectacular views across the harbour. We also take a look at the beach and the impressive bridge near the port where our cruise ship is docked.
Honfleur is one of those places that feels like a film set, with colourful buildings, narrow cobbled streets and traditional French shops selling cider, chocolates and local produce. Even in November the weather surprised us, making it a perfect day to explore.
If you’re cruising to Honfleur with Fred Olsen, or visiting Normandy on a cruise, this guide will show you what to expect and whether this small French port is worth exploring.
This unexpected stop turned into one of the highlights of our cruise.
