Unexpected! Royal Caribbean is in BIG Trouble after the Cruiser passed away...
Royal Caribbean is now facing a major legal storm after the family of a passenger—who tragically died on one of the cruise line’s ships last year—filed a lawsuit seeking damages.
But what really happened on board?
Who is responsible—and could this case change the cruise industry forever?
Let’s break it down in today’s episode of Cruise Now.
Unexpected! Royal Caribbean is in BIG Trouble after the Cruiser passed away...
For those who may not remember, 35-year-old Michael Virgil died onboard Navigator of the Seas during a December 2024 sailing from Los Angeles to Mexico. He was traveling with his fiancée, Connie Aguilar, their young son, and several relatives. What should have been a festive holiday getaway quickly turned into a tragedy that is now at the center of a federal lawsuit.
The lawsuit—filed in the Southern District of Florida by Aguilar on behalf of Virgil’s estate—accuses Royal Caribbean of being directly responsible for his death. According to the complaint, the cruise line overserved Virgil an extreme amount of alcohol and then handled the situation with excessive force when he became disoriented and agitated.

The filing claims that on the day of his death, Virgil consumed at least 33 alcoholic beverages served to him by different bars aboard the ship. It alleges that crew members failed to monitor his state, even as his level of intoxication became obvious. At some point during the night, Virgil reportedly got lost while trying to find his cabin—something that happens occasionally among highly intoxicated passengers, but rarely escalates beyond confusion.
