Our epic @nextleveloz North Pole and Greenland expedition cruise, on Ponant luxury icebreaker expedition ship Le Commandant Charcot, comes to an end. We ask the question - is the expense of this luxury journey worth it? We answer your questions including whether the Arctic or an Antarctic expedition is better or whether we prefer these bucket list polar adventures to an overloading lap of Australia in our Land Rover Defender and Zone Van.
Don’t book your Arctic adventure cruise until you’ve seen this vid. Watch and give us your views in the comments.
We finish this adventure with a magical zodiac cruise through the majestic iceberg grave yard - or I say iceberg garden of Scoresby Sound, we climb around a glacier shrouded in mists and we do a beach landing through a small surf break to experience a completely different vista. Our visit to Greenland wraps up with a visit to the Inuit community of Ittoqqortoormiit - which we can spell but can't pronounce.
We leave this most beautiful scenery and disappear into the polar evening for Reykjavik and the end of the voyage.
In our review we explain what we want out of bucket list travel, the special moments of this trip and discuss whether the expense means you would be better off using it for a lap of Australia. We compare this trip to a previous Antarctic expedition cruise to answer your questions about which is better and we answer the question that if you had just one choice - would it be the pristine wilderness and special magic of the North Pole and Greenland or would it be a Lap of Australia?
You might be surprised about our thoughts - and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
We also provide some cautions about Antarctic options.
Don't miss this episode if you are trying to decide which is better for you?
We're David and Paula and like many people we've worked hard for 40 years. so we took a gap year from work and did a Big Lap of Australia, which changed our life and outlook. Join us as we work out the balance and the next chapters of our future and travel and options. How much more big travel in our van and how many other bucket list items can we fit in? We don't know but let's find out.
We aren't influencers or professional content creators, we don't have sponsors and 100% of our YouTube ad revenue goes to charity.
This highly capable, expedition icebreaking ship Le Commandant Charcot, by Ponant, allows us to take in the stark scenery of the Polar region and the wildlife. We've seen 9 Polar Bears which is just amazing. We stop for hours so we could watch them in the wild. And the ship is so quiet that they watched us and didn't get disturbed.
We jump in the zodiacs and kayaks to take in the magical ice and majestic scenery at ground level.
How does that compare the jagged ruggedness and the massive amount of wildlife, the penguins, the seals, the whales and the birdlife of the Antarctic and the South Atlantic islands the Falkland Islands and South Georgia.
In this new @nextleveloz series, following our life changing Big Lap of Australia in our van, we are trying to find the right life balance and the best mix between the Oz van travel that we love and ticking off some iconic, overseas bucket list designations.
Our Gap Year just got that bit longer.
Please don't forget to like, subscribe and share. Hopefully you find the vids interesting and we can send a bit of money off the Legacy and RFDS while we're all sharing and watching these dreams and adventures coming true.
And please also share with other friends and don't forget, constructive comments and shares are very, very welcome.
And don't worry we will be back in the van soon! We love the Oz travel so much. We just can't decide the right mix right now. But for now, enjoy this epic journey to the Arctic polar region.
