CRUISE NEWS: You WON’T Believe How This Crew Member Saved the Day on Royal Caribbean! CRUISE NOW
In any situation, anywhere, our chances of staying safe during an emergency are directly linked to how well we can predict danger and react quickly before disaster strikes.
On Sunday, June 8th, a cracked glass panel above the pool deck on Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas shattered completely, sending glass fragments raining down onto the lounge chairs below. Fortunately, the chairs were empty because a crew member had spotted the danger just in time.

The ship had departed from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, and was heading toward its first stop in Florida at Port Canaveral when the incident occurred. Travel content creator Tytti Tuliainen captured the terrifying moment on video, showing large pieces of glass falling from above.
On social media, passengers praised crew member Nitin Kumar for his quick thinking and swift action in warning guests to move out of harm's way just before the glass fell.

On a Royal Caribbean subreddit, Kumar’s heroic story prevailed. One commenter, who was allegedly aboard the ship at the time of the crash, wrote, “Nitin saw it cracking and sprinted down to the pool deck and told the people in deck chairs to move. Fifteen seconds later this happened. Dude saved some lives for sure.”

Then, Royal Caribbean also took to their social media accounts to acknowledge Kumar's assistance.
“Thanks to the fast thinking of one of the best Nitin, these seats were vacant when the safety glass gave way,” the caption read. “You are truly an asset to Royal Caribbean and a hero to the many people you removed from harms way. great job!"
Responding online, Kumar said, "You all are my family. What I did, I did for family … I learned from this company how to take care of my guests like family."

No confirmed reason was given for the accident, but one social media user noted that the incident occurred when the ship was making a 180-degree turn to dock and the vessel was shaking quite heavily. Most people seem to think that vibration/small cracks in the tempered glass caused it to happen.
