Mykonos looks like a dream from every angle, but there are a few things I really wish I knew before my first visit. Here are ten that will save you time, money, and stress.
1. The wind is no joke
The meltemi winds can be wild. Pack a light jacket even in summer.
2. Taxis are almost mythical
There are only a few dozen on the island. Prebook transfers or you’ll be stranded.
3. Little Venice is best early
Sunset is packed. Visit early morning for empty laneways and perfect photos.
4. Beach clubs vary wildly in price
You can spend 30 euro or 300 euro for a sunbed. Always check prices first.
5. The buses are actually good
Cheap, reliable, and the best way to get around if you don’t want an ATV.
6. Make dinner reservations
Walk-ins during high season are almost impossible in the main town.
7. The streets are a maze
They were built to confuse pirates. Use it as part of the adventure.
8. Water taxis are underrated
A fun and easy way to hop between beaches without the crowds.
9. The windmills are best just after sunrise
Beautiful light, fewer people, and cooler temps.
10. Stay in Mykonos Town if you want the buzz
Stay outside town if you want quiet nights and easier parking.
