Most people see Milford Sound for a few hours.
A quick cruise. A photo. A bus ride home.
But when the last tour boats leave…
when the car park empties…
when the waterfalls keep falling but everything else goes quiet…
That’s when this place changes.
Tonight, we’re boarding the Milford Mariner and sailing deep into the fiord — sleeping on the water, kayaking beneath sheer cliffs, watching the light fade behind Mitre Peak, and waking up in complete stillness.
No traffic.
No crowds.
Just mountains rising straight out of the sea.
And the kind of silence that makes you speak a little softer.
🌊 In this episode:
• The full drive into Milford Sound along one of NZ’s most scenic roads
• Boarding the Milford Mariner for an overnight cruise
• Sailing past waterfalls and towering cliffs
• Kayaking in the fiord at dusk
• Spotting wildlife from the deck
• Sleeping on the water
• Waking up before the day-trippers arrive
This episode captures something we’ve always believed about travel:
Some places you visit.
Others… you have to stay for.

Hej hej from the water! I’m Chloé — a Kiwi travel creator exploring the world one awkward train moment at a time. My husband Ludvig (dry humour, Swedish passport) joins when he can. Together, we seek out the quirkiest journeys, comfiest cabins, and always squeeze in a touch of luxury when we can (okay, that part’s mostly my idea 😅). We’re all about making travel fun, relatable, and a little bit weird — with a side of scenic magic.💛
Some links are affiliate, which means we might earn a small commission (at no extra cost to you). It helps keep the adventures going — and pays for coffee when the train café runs out of it. And honestly? Every time you use one, it triggers a little happy dance on my end. 🕺 So thank you!
