Spike and I went sailing up the Pumicestone Passage again. The winds were supposed to be mild but a front came through and gave us some excitement. So much so that we cracked the mast. I ran the centreboard aground on the sand at low tide and whilst sorting that out a big gust hit us directly side on and overstressed the mast.
My mast was 3 laminations, epoxied and screwed together but where I had joints in the lengths of timber, I just overlapped them so the joints didn't align but I should have scarfed them. Silly mistake. Lesson learned.
Lucky for the mizzen we could sail back to the boat ramp without further incident.
