Class systems in travel have existed for basically as long as mass transportation has been available. While modern day cruise travel had eliminated the most overt examples of class distinction, some points of difference appear to be creeping back in.
These tend to be connected to the modern cruise experience which involves the concept of a "ship within a ship". This is when cruise lines provide multiple onboard experiences for its guests, with exclusive spaces and the best onboard food reserved for passengers staying in the ship's top tier accommodations.
You'll find this across many mainstream cruise lines today: Celebrity's The Retreat, Princess Cruises Signature Class, P&O Australia's Byron Beach Club, Norwegian Cruise Line's The Haven, Virgin Voyages Rock Star and Mega Rock Star suites, Carnival Cruise's Havana Beach Club, MSC Cruises Yacht Club and more!
Many people have communicated their frustration with these concepts, and so I thought it would be fun to discuss! Let me know in the comments - are you annoyed by the ship within a ship concept, or do you enjoy taking advantage of the added perks that these exclusive onboard experiences offer?
