Thinking about booking Norwegian Jade and wondering what the dining is really like? This full Norwegian Jade dining review and restaurant tour walks you through the ship’s complimentary and specialty options so you can decide where to eat, how to use your dining package, and what is actually worth an upcharge. This is an independent review: I paid for this cruise and my specialty dining out of pocket, and Norwegian Cruise Line did not sponsor or influence this video.
In this video, we cover:
– Garden Café buffet and seating
– Juice bar and drink options near the buffet
– Great Outdoors extended buffet area
– Moderno Churrascaria–style carving service
– Oceans bar and restaurant during port days
– La Cucina (Italian specialty dining)
– Jasmine Garden (Asian specialty dining)
– Grand Pacific vs. Alizar main dining rooms
– Le Bistro French specialty dining and wine tasting event
– Tips for getting the best value from your dining package
What you will see and learn:
• Garden Café and buffet overview
You will see the Garden Café buffet layout, salad bar, sushi options, fruits, vegetables, and general breakfast and lunch offerings. I explain how the main buffet flows, where to find seating with ocean views, and how busy it feels at different times of day.
• Moderno Churrascaria–style carving service
You’ll get a look at the area near Moderno Churrascaria, including the salad and sushi buffet used in conjunction with the churrascaria-style service. I explain how servers walk around with different cuts of meat, how you signal what you want, and why it can be a strong value if you enjoy this style of dining.
• Oceans bar and restaurant on port days
We visit Oceans, which on this sailing was the only bar and restaurant open at 2:00 p.m. on a port day aside from the buffet. You will see a typical lunch there (including a cheeseburger and beer), hear about the menu, and get my impressions on service and wait times when the ship is relatively quiet.
• La Cucina Italian specialty dining
We stop at La Cucina, one of my favorite specialty dining venues on Norwegian ships. I talk about the atmosphere, how it can also serve as an overflow area for the buffet at times, and why it can still be a more relaxed place to sit and eat even if you are coming from the buffet. You will hear my general expectations and why I return to La Cucina across the fleet.
• Jasmine Garden: portions, value, and dishes
You will see specific dishes from Jasmine Garden, including the dragon roll, honey shrimp, and the Cantonese shrimp and scallop stir-fry. I talk honestly about portion sizes, perceived value for what you pay, and how Jasmine compares to other specialty venues when you are deciding where to spend your limited specialty dining credits.
• Grand Pacific vs. Alizar main dining rooms
We compare Grand Pacific and Alizar, NCL Jade’s two main dining rooms. I explain that the menus are essentially the same, but the spaces and service feel different. You will hear why I personally prefer Grand Pacific, how often I have dined in each, and why the choice mostly comes down to atmosphere and hours rather than food quality.
• Le Bistro French specialty dining and wine tasting
We spend time in Le Bistro, a French specialty restaurant found on many Norwegian ships. You will see the setup for a wine and cheese tasting event (with an additional per-person fee), hear from the staff about how the tasting works, and get a sense of the restaurant’s ambience at night. I talk about decor, table settings, window views, and how this Le Bistro compares to others I have tried on different NCL ships. You’ll also see plated dishes such as goat cheese croquettes and hear about what stood out and what fell short.
• Dress code and how formal to be
I share my perspective on how to dress for specialty dining on Norwegian Jade. If you want to dress up and make it a formal night, you can. If you prefer to keep it casual, that is generally fine too. I emphasize that it is your vacation and you should feel comfortable, while still respecting the basic guidelines.
