As a seasoned traveller and cruise enthusiast, I reflect on what seems to be the closing chapter of their remarkable cruising career. The date is August 23, 2023, this is a vlog about the depth of my experience, the changing dynamics of the cruising world, and the personal journey that led to this significant decision. My cruise journey began in the early 1980s, with their inaugural voyage on the "Fun Ship," marking the commencement of a passion that would define my life for decades to come. My cruise life reignited in 2007 with a cruise aboard Disney Wonder. Since then, their life has been a whirlwind of oceanic adventures, culminating in their 46th cruise aboard Carnival Splendor in August 2023. My original goal was to achieve the impressive milestone of 50 cruises by December 2023, a goal thwarted by the unforeseen and unprecedented impact of the pandemic. It's a reminder of how the world's circumstances can dramatically alter our personal plans, even for the most seasoned travellers. My travel escapades, read like a travel enthusiast's dream. They have traversed the globe, exploring numerous cruise destinations, crossing the Suez Canal, navigating the Panama Canal, and embarking on transatlantic and transpacific voyages. They have set foot in captivating lands like Norway, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and the Pacific Islands. Yet, despite my passion for exploration, I reflect a change in perspective. They candidly share their concerns about the current political climate in the United States, a country that had played a significant role in their cruising history. This transformation of sentiment towards a once-beloved destination is a testament to the power of global events in shaping travel preferences. My cruise journey is not just about personal exploration but also about giving back to the cruising community with the YouTube channel, "Jules Cruise Companion," where they have documented their experiences, shared tips and created a community of fellow cruisers. My commitment to helping novice cruisers through their book, "Handy Cruise Companion," available on Amazon, reflects their desire to make cruising accessible and enjoyable for everyone. However, the challenges I feel I face in the era of social media. Where I am frustrated with the sometimes-toxic nature of online discussions, especially on topics like travel insurance. In an age where differing opinions can lead to heated exchanges, it’s important to have respectful discourse. Reflecting on my health with pseudomyxoma peritonei, an incurable but non-terminal cancer. This adds a layer of complexity to my decision to potentially conclude their cruising career. I am only human, putting myself out in public as a travel enthusiast and having to be resilient in the face of adversity. I don’t believe my passion for cruising will not extend beyond 2024 or 2025.
