Just before departure, the afternoon sky transforms. After a stretch of coastal clouds, sunlight suddenly breaks through and floods the harbour with golden light. The ship’s deep blue hull begins to shimmer while seagulls soar and play in the wind above the waterfront during a calm intermission before the lines are released.
Built for Disney Cruise Line, Disney Wonder is one of the line’s original ships and a familiar sight in Vancouver each Alaska cruise season. With her classic ocean liner styling and signature red funnels, she remains one of the most recognizable cruise ships sailing the Pacific Northwest.
As the ship slowly pulls away from the terminal, the light continues to evolve. The afternoon glow fades into a beautiful West Coast sunset before twilight settles over the harbour. City lights begin to appear along the skyline while reflections ripple across Burrard Inlet as the ship heads toward the open waters of the Salish Sea and the legendary Alaska route.
This departure captures everything that makes Vancouver’s cruise season special — dramatic coastal skies, incredible ships, wildlife overhead, and one of the most beautiful cruise terminals in the world.
The first sailing never disappoints… and many more ships are still to come.
