This is a very old photo and a photo from my very first cruise which was in 1984
on Fairstar the fun ship P&O. I have done 36 cruises I have circumnavigated the globe and visited 64 countries.
The anatomy of a cruise ship is as I explore some of the old photos from my decades of traveling so the basic anatomy of a cruise ship is very similar regardless of what the
the cruise line is so I’ve only been on six cruise lines Disney, P&O, Royal Caribbean, Princess Norwegian, Carnival & Celebrity.
Disney – Wonder, Magic, Dream & Fantasy
P&O – Dawn, Eden, Aria, Encounter
Royal Caribbean - Rhapsody, Radiance, Legend, & Explorer
Princess - Sea, Sun & Royal
Norwegian - Jewel, Star, Pride & Epic
Carnival - Sensation & Spirit
Celebrity - Constellation
The anatomy of most of the ships has basically the same format.
Under the water line is where the crew is. The engine, the laundry, food, and beverage storage, the medical center.
In the middle kind of decks are the public decks where you'll have um atrium, most of the restaurants.
Higher-up decks are where the staterooms are
Top decks have the Lido the pool deck with sports activities
I met Coral Princess transiting the Panama Canal while I was on the Norwegian Star
Buffet are usually near the pool and open deck.
Adult-only Oasis area
Casino & restaurants, shops & theatres.
Pride of America Hawaii
Norwegian Star in a fjord in Norway
Mendenhall glacier when I was on a Norwegian Jewel cruising the Alaskan coastline that seven-day inner passage
Pacific Dawn
Photo from Royal Princess & looking at the back there is Norwegian Star in Kotor harbor in Montenegro.
Mediterranean
Explorer of the Seas trans-pacific crossing Seattle to Sydney, a ceremonial celebration with Neptune crossing the date line.
My first Carnival cruise experience was out of Miami & that was on Carnival Sensation. A three-night or four-night booze cruise down to the Bahamas.
Carnival Spirit out of Sydney
Royal Princess & Celebrity Constellation visiting the same ports on different itineraries.
The saddest day on a cruise is the night before disembarkation when you put your luggage out ready for the crew to take down to the hold
Navigating around some cruise lines have clocks around & this one I think was Explorer of the Sea, every day in the lift they changed the little sign within the match within the lift
My favorite cruise ship is Norwegian Star just because I’ve been on her so many times so many different itineraries were transatlantic.
I have established relationships with everybody right from the bar staff, and the laundry staff right up to the executive chef.
My favorite cruise line is Disney, having been on all four of her boats Wonder, Magic, Dream & Fantasy predominantly out of the Caribbean doing the Bahamas
Fabulous ships, the entertainment's great, the decor is fabulous, the room size is magnificent, and the hidden mickeys are everywhere. You get to see the Disney characters wandering around the ship.
It is worth having at least a window if you can’t afford a balcony.
Take magnets, and put them on the outside of the door.
Celebrity Constellation trip through the Sues Canal, going into pirate-repelling mode with blackout curtains so every night. A pirate drill where we were assigned your internal muster station in case of an emergency.
External Security some x SAS soldiers came on board & they were with us for the whole transit & they come on with their guns & then they would be piloted off at the end of the escort.
Chef Abdul was absolutely fabulous on a Celebrity Constellation, I went down & did the galley tour & saw the crew working really hard.
There’re hundreds of people working behind the scenes to make the whole cruise run smoothly.
I also got an opportunity to go down & visit the laundry it wasn't actually as hot as I anticipated it would be.
