Las Palmas Cruise Day | What Surprised Us on Virgin Voyages
Las Palmas turned out to be one of those cruise days that surprises you in the best ways.
We start the day by stepping off Virgin Voyages’ Resilient Lady and walking straight from the ship along the waterfront, through the brand-new cruise terminal area, and into the city. From there, it’s an easy walk to the beach where we kick things off with some downtime, lunch, and a few celebratory toasts to a couple of retirees in our group.
In the afternoon, we head back toward the mall to join the Hop On Hop Off bus tour. This ends up being one of the highlights of the day — a relaxed, scenic loop that takes a couple of hours to complete and gives a great overview of Las Palmas from multiple angles, covering both coasts and different sides of the island. We let this part of the day breathe, setting it to music and letting the views speak for themselves.
Back onboard, we’re honest about one of Virgin Voyages’ biggest frustrations — slow re-boarding and unnecessary bottlenecks — but we also give credit where it’s due. Dinner at Gunbae brings Korean BBQ, family-style dining, and drinking games right at the table, before the night shifts into full Halloween mode with costumes, contests, prizes, and high-energy entertainment.
While Virgin still has areas to improve operationally, this is where they shine. When it comes to entertainment and onboard activities, they truly bring their A game.
If you’re cruising to Las Palmas, considering the Hop On Hop Off bus, or sailing Virgin Voyages and want to see what a real cruise day actually looks like — this one’s for you.
