In this episode, we finally arrived at our first port of this cruise itinerary around southern #Japan onboard #diamondprincess . Due to Typhoon Shanshan we ended up at a port much further south than we would have imagined!
Miyakojima is an island in Okinawa, Japan, known for its natural beauty, beaches, and crystal-clear waters that rival some of the best in the world. The island offers a unique blend of Japanese and Ryukyu culture, with historical sites like the Hirara Tropical Botanical Garden and Ryugujo Observatory. Miyakojima’s relaxed, tropical vibe, coupled with its vibrant marine life, makes it a prime spot for snorkeling and diving. Visitors can also explore hidden coves, scenic bridges connecting nearby islands, and savor Okinawan cuisine with specialties like Miyako soba.
Due to Wil still recovering from his broken foot, we chose to explore the town of Miyakojima itself. We explored on foot in search of temples, shrines, and local eats! One of those eats turned out to be rather interesting! You'll know it when you see it, so please let us know in the comments what you think!
Although an unexpected port, it was so great to finally arrive in a Japanese port where we got to begin our exploring! We have so much more coming from our subsequent ports now that our cruise was on its regular schedule, and the typhoon was out of our way!
Following our first port, we have an additional sea day to explore more of what the Princess Plus package has to offer! Let us know your thoughts.
