CRUISE ALERT: Arrest at Port, Onboard Safety Concerns This Week!
If you are about to go on a cruise, are currently on a cruise, have cruised before, or are simply passionate about cruising, these are urgent alert updates you need to know.
And this is Cruise Now.
German federal police have confirmed that a 26-year-old man was arrested on January 4, 2026, at the Columbus Cruise Terminal in Bremerhaven, just moments before he was scheduled to board a cruise ship as a crew member. According to a statement from the Bundespolizei, officers stopped the man at approximately 2:00 p.m. during a routine identity check prior to departure. When his personal details were cross-checked against law enforcement databases, authorities discovered that he had been wanted for several weeks and was the subject of two separate arrest warrants issued by courts in southern Germany. Officials stated that one arrest warrant, issued by the Augsburg District Court, was related to allegations of theft during a robbery.

The second warrant, issued by the Nördlingen District Court, stemmed from a violation of probation following a previous conviction for assault. It is deeply unsettling to consider what could have happened if this individual had managed to blend into the crowd onboard. Passengers could have become victims of theft at any moment without realizing it. More concerning is the mindset of a criminal who has evaded authorities multiple times—such individuals often become overconfident and are more prone to acts of violence. This serves as a reminder to remain cautious around strangers while cruising. After all, a cruise ship is essentially a floating city, and no one can truly predict what may happen next.

In another disturbing case, two Carnival Cruise Line passengers have been charged in connection with the rape of a 25-year-old woman aboard the Carnival Sunrise. Sayjuan Readous, 26, and Antoine Flowers Jr., 28, both from Michigan, are accused of secretly switching places during a sexual encounter on December 15, 2025, without the victim’s knowledge or consent. Investigators say the woman met Readous at a ship bar and agreed to consensual sex. However, after the lights were turned off, Flowers Jr. allegedly took his place. The assault was discovered moments later, prompting the victim to flee the cabin. Both men were arrested in Nassau and now face serious charges.
