The RMS Queen Mary was the fastest ship of her time, crossing the Atlantic in just under 4 days. She twice won the Blue Riband, and only one passenger ship ever surpassed her record breaking time. Her top speed was just over 30 knots, roughly 50% faster than modern day cruise ships! Built in Clydebank, Scotland, her maiden voyage was in 1936. She carried Prime Ministers, movie stars and even royalty. But the jet era put an end to the ocean liners and three decades after she launched, in 1967 she retired to Long Beach, California. The Queen Mary now operates as a tourist attraction and a hotel, right next to the Carnival cruise port. If you are looking for something to do or visit in Los Angeles put this at the top of your list!
