The 2022 Australian cruise season was slated to open in April 2022. Now that has been postponed until 2023.
Hi everyone! I’m Julie from Jules Cruise Companion — I’m a registered nurse who usually takes people with disabilities cruising. But as you can probably guess... there's been not much cruising happening lately. So instead, I’ve been keeping busy traveling in new ways — and right now, I’m at Brisbane Airport on the first leg of a brand new adventure!"
AIRPORT EXPERIENCE - FEB 17, 2022
Footage of empty Brisbane Airport, wide shots of decor, check-in counters, etc.
It’s February 17th, 2022, and the airport is pretty quiet — just one restaurant open and a few passengers floating around. I’m flying Emirates to Dubai and then on to Jordan. Check-in went pretty smoothly, although the first two people in line had some issues — one with their PCR test, another with passport details.
I’m keeping my mask on the whole trip, except when eating or drinking. Everything felt very organized — even the carry-on was weighed, and yes, I was strategically layering my clothes to make it all fit!
There were a few changes in the travel process — you no longer need to remove electronics at security, and fluid limits are stricter now, including things like baby powder and salts. The PCR station is located on the ground floor, but I prepaid mine a few days in advance to be safe.
CARNIVAL CRUISE CANCELLATION - SAD NEWS
"Now, let’s talk about cruising — and some not-so-great news. We were booked on Carnival Spirit for April 2022 out of Brisbane, but that was canceled. We rebooked for August… but just got the dreaded email: Carnival is pulling all ships out of Australian waters for 2022. They're heading back to the U.S. to resume operations there.
So — no cruise this year, and we’re not sure if we’ll receive another onboard credit. For the first cancellation, we received a refund and $900 onboard credit. But for this one... we’ll see. If you’ve been affected, drop a comment below — I’d love to hear your experience.
CRUISING VS. LAND TRAVEL: SHIFTING GEARS
"While cruising is on hold, I’ve been exploring my own backyard — central west NSW, healthy cooking, even doing some swimming. I’ve also been sharing tips on how to stay connected to travel, even from home."
THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL – JORDAN TRIP
The bright side is — I’m finally heading to Jordan! I fly out today, Feb 17th, and arrive in Amman on the 18th. It’s been over two years and three postponed trips, so I can’t wait.
I’ve already uploaded a video about the new entry process for Jordan — from registering online and getting a QR code, to prepaying for PCR tests and having insurance that covers COVID. It’s all a bit different, but very doable.
Boarding went well — I wiped down my seat and tray as always, turned on the air vents to keep air moving, and noticed they’re spacing people out where they can. Emirates provided the usual toothbrush, socks, eye mask — and this time, a face mask and hand sanitizer too.
Okay — I’ve survived the 14-hour flight to Dubai! I’ve got an 8-hour layover, so I’m editing this video so you can follow along with my journey. It’s just the beginning — and yes, there’ll be food tours, desert adventures, and plenty of travel updates from Jordan.
If you’re curious about travel right now, especially to Jordan or the Middle East — hit that subscribe button, give this video a like, and tap the bell icon so you don’t miss what’s next. I’ll be sharing everything — from mansaf and maqlooba to ancient ruins and modern culture.
Thanks for joining me — stay safe, and happy travels!
