Sailing into Lisbon at 5:30 a.m. is the kind of moment that reminds you why travelling by sea still holds a special kind of magic. As the Seven Seas Voyager glided silently along the Tagus River, the city slowly revealed itself in a breathtaking play of darkness, light, and monumental silhouettes. The sky was still ink-blue when the glowing structure of the 25th of April Bridge appeared ahead of us—its red span illuminated like a gateway welcoming us into Portugal’s capital. Standing on deck, feeling the ship ease beneath the iconic bridge, was nothing short of spectacular.
On the left, the softly lit Vasco da Gama monument rose proudly, a tribute to Portugal’s daring spirit of exploration. Moments later, the illuminated Cristo Rei statue appeared on the opposite bank, its arms outstretched over the river—a serene, almost spiritual sight as dawn began brushing the horizon with pale colours. Lisbon looked peaceful, majestic, and utterly enchanting in the early morning silence.
For all its dramatic arrival, the practical part of the day—disembarkation from the Seven Seas Voyager—was refreshingly calm and efficient. Regent’s system is simple: follow the instructions provided the night before, respect the timings, and everything unfolds logically and without stress. Luggage was organised, staff were visible and helpful, and the entire process moved with a smoothness that many cruise lines only promise.
After such a memorable sail-in and an effortless farewell, Lisbon felt like the perfect final chapter to this journey
