Is this room big enough for you?
This is a standard inside cabin on Holland America’s Zaandam Dolphin Deck 1924. It’s a room with triple occupancy, a king and a twin.
This is an older ship built in 2000, at 61K GR Tons. It is a tiny and intimate ship! They have around 394 verandas and suites compared to 738 inside and ocean view rooms. Most newer ships have far more balconies and rooms with views.
Some of the downfalls of the cabin:
🔌 They only had one outlet on the vanity and one small one in the bathroom. It made it difficult to blow dry your hair and charge devices (or use a CPAP while charging devices).
🚿 In the washroom, they also could use a glass door to make it a little easier to shower without getting water everywhere.
🧊 There is no fridge in the room if you have to store medications.
💄 The main vanity mirror was dark so you would have to use the small lit makeup mirror which was sufficient.
💡 The entrance had dim lighting which made the closet space dim as well.
Some of the perks:
🛌 Cabins are a little bigger than some of the newer ships.
🏝️ They have blankets for outside, beach towels and bathrobes for each person.
👗 They have a curtain that can be drawn to make privacy for dressing.
🤵♂️ They have more wardrobe space than I’ve ever had on a ship with plenty of hangers.
📺 Their cabin entertainment has plenty of quality movies on demand (watch at your own pace).
🍲 They offer more room service (for free) than most cruise lines, and not only breakfast!
What do you look for when picking a cabin? Space, balcony, adjoining rooms, family room (3rd, 4th, 5th person room), design?
