Alfredo's Pizzeria serves the best pizza at sea, featuring Tony Gemignani's award-winning pies.' Multiple outdoor viewing areas perfect for Alaska cruising, including the partially covered bow on Deck 8, open promenade on Deck 7, and various terraced spaces. We spotted humpback whales right from our balcony during scenic cruising through Johnstone Strait. Princess Cruises' North to Alaska programming elevated the experience with onboard naturalists, park ranger presentations in Glacier Bay National Park, local photographers, storytellers, and the signature Puppies in the Piazza event with Iditarod champion Ryan Reddington. Cruise Director Drew and the activity team kept everyone entertained with officer vs guest challenges, trivia in Explorer's Lounge, Movies Under the Stars, and Back to the 80s dance party in the Piazza. WHAT CHALLENGED US The 168 square foot balcony stateroom felt smaller than modern cruise ships, with standard balconies lacking a loveseat sitting area. Limited outlets and USB ports required bringing a power adapter. The bathroom featured a shower curtain and one of the smallest shower stalls we've experienced. Princess Cruises' theatrical productions weren't memorable, though shows like Do You Wanna Dance, Bravo, and Let Me Entertain You provided adequate entertainment. Some venues, like Club Fusion and Skywalker's Nightclub, felt underutilized during our sailing. THE SAPPHIRE PRINCESS EXPERIENCE This Grand-class ship offers 18 decks with multiple pool areas, including Neptune Pool, Calypso indoor pool, Terrace Pool overlooking the wake, and the adults-only Lotus Spa Pool. The upcharge Sanctuary on Deck 16 provides an intimate retreat with premium loungers. Rather than waterslides and rock climbing walls found on mega-ships, Sapphire Princess focuses on enrichment programming, interactive activities, and port-intensive itineraries. The Lotus Spa's thermal suite offers voyage-long or day passes. WHO SHOULD SAIL SAPPHIRE PRINCESS This ship works beautifully for Alaska cruising with extensive outdoor viewing areas and immersive North to Alaska programming. While lacking modern mega-ship amenities, it delivers Princess Cruises' signature refined experience with excellent dining, enrichment activities, and personalized service.
