We’ve just disembarked the MS Rotterdam in Rotterdam and kicked off our land adventure in the Netherlands! 🇳🇱 In this first episode of our Post Cruise in the Netherlands series, join us, Wil and Stephen, as we explore whether The Hague and Delft deserve a spot on YOUR travel list after a cruise.
After arriving in Rotterdam, we made our way to The Hague, the Netherlands’ political heart and ocean-lined city known for royal history, culture, and seaside vibes.
We dropped off our luggage and headed straight to Scheveningen Beach, a lively coastal district full of golden sand, beach pavilions, and panoramic views. It’s not just a beach — it’s a place where you can stroll the boardwalk, enjoy seafood with your toes in the sand, and even watch adventurers tackle ferris wheel views, bungee jumping, and zip lining off the Scheveningen Pier — though we played it a bit safer that day 😉. Scheveningen’s transformation from a historic fishing village into one of the Netherlands’ most beloved beach spots means there’s something for everyone — from laid-back beach life to heart-pumping rides and ocean views.
Upon our return from the beach, we strolled through central The Hague, we wandered past the Binnenhof, an impressive historic complex that’s been at the heart of Dutch government for nearly 800 years.
As we soaked up that history, we also stumbled upon a delightful surprise — a performance by Coloquio 6, a vibrant wind sextet passionate about bringing 18th- and 19th-century music to life on period instruments. Their name means “conversation,” and true to that spirit, their music filled the air with joyful melodies that drew a small crowd and added an unforgettable soundtrack to our afternoon wander.
That evening, after a quick hotel break, we found a fantastic dinner at CLOOS, a local favorite in The Hague’s vibrant dining scene.
The next morning, we soaked up some culture at the iconic Mauritshuis Museum in The Hague — home to masterpieces by Vermeer, Rembrandt, and other Dutch Golden Age painters (including the world-famous Girl with a Pearl Earring). Walking its halls gives you a sense of why Dutch art is so celebrated.
Later, we headed to Delft, a charming historic town known around the world for its blue and white pottery — specifically Delftware. In Market Square, we explored pottery shops, wandered canals, and soaked up the atmosphere of this picturesque city before enjoying an unforgettable lunch. Delft’s classic architecture and relaxed canal views make it a perfect complement to your Netherlands itinerary.
To cap the day, we wandered through The Hague Market (Haagse Markt), where local flavors, fresh produce, and lively stalls brought the city to life. We even found a cozy ramen spot called Momiji Ramen and finished nearby with some frozen yogurt — because who doesn’t love dessert?
