Discovery Princess review Australia | Princess Cruises honest review | Discovery Princess problems
We really wanted to love the Discovery Princess — Princess Cruises’ newest Royal Class ship — but this short 3-night cruise from Sydney left us disappointed. In this honest Discovery Princess review, we share what went wrong on our Australia cruise and why this sailing didn’t live up to Princess Cruises’ usual standards.
Discovery Princess arrived in Australia with huge hype. Launched in 2022, she’s known for elegant design, a stunning piazza atrium, modern cabins, and a reputation for premium dining. But on our Sydney to Eden cruise, overcrowding, slow food service, unreliable Ocean Now delivery, and a cramped balcony cabin for four quickly overshadowed the excitement. With nearly 4,400 passengers onboard, the ship felt far too full for a short sailing — especially after Eden was cancelled due to rough seas, turning the trip into a cruise to nowhere with no compensation.
From undercooked sushi and overly salty Main Dining Room meals to long waits for lunch venues and frustrating dining delays, food was a major letdown. Add in noisy public spaces, slow bar service, and ongoing cabin issues with Pullman beds, and this cruise became a real test — not just for guests, but clearly for the hardworking crew as well.
So… are we being too harsh on Discovery Princess? Or has Princess Cruises changed?
