Formed in 2004, Carnival Australia is a branch of Carnival plc, and is the backbone of the cruise industry in this region with the P&O Cruises brand sailing from Australia since December 1932 when the P&O mail ship, Strathaird, embarked on a five-day cruise to Brisbane and Norfolk Island. We represent seven of the international cruise brands operating in the local market: P&O Cruises, P&O Cruises World Cruising, Cunard, Princess Cruises, Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America Line and Seabourn.
Carnival Australia has expanded its operations from one cruise ship sailing from Sydney to seven ships sailing year round from Sydney, Melbourne, Fremantle, and Auckland under the local brands of P&O Cruises and Princess Cruises.
In recent years, cruising has been the standout success of the Australian tourism sector. According to statistics compiled by the International Cruise Council Australasia (ICCA), more than 465,000 Australians took a cruise holiday in 2010 compared with just 116,000 in 2002.
Cruising is on a growth trajectory that will result in one million Australians taking a cruise holiday by 2020 with the industry set to contribute more than A$3 billion annually to the national economy. Carnival Australia is also at the forefront of public debate surrounding the need for appropriate investment in port facilities to support further growth of the cruise industry.
