CRUISE NEWS! Starbucks, Cruise Lines & Why Experience Matters

Yesterday I mentioned that today I wanted to talk about Starbucks and cruise lines—and how, surprisingly, there are a lot of parallels between the two. This is one of those conversations that isn’t really about coffee or cruising alone, but about experience. I share what happened at Starbucks when decisions were made that focused heavily on efficiency and the bottom line, and how that impacted the customer experience. Then we talk about how cruise lines face similar risks if cost-cutting starts to affect the very things that make each cruise line special. We discuss the importance of crew, service, food quality, and the unique touches that give each cruise line its personality. I also share examples of what cruise lines do well—and what could be at risk if they lose sight of why guests are willing to pay for these experiences in the first place.
