Cruisers THROWN in Jail Mid-Trip After Failing This SIMPLE Check!
Most cruise travelers worry about forgetting sunscreen, chargers, a favorite pair of sandals—or maybe leaving the passport in the hotel room. But almost no one imagines accidentally packing something that could have them arrested in a foreign country. Yet that is exactly what happened to 69-year-old Mary Robinson, a grandmother from Oklahoma whose dream vacation turned into a nightmare she will likely never forget. And honestly… if you were in her position, would you have handled it any better?

Mary boarded Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas on December 1, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, ready for a simple four-night getaway to Nassau and Perfect Day at CocoCay. The trip was meant to be a celebration for her 12-year-old adopted son—a birthday cruise filled with sunshine, beaches, and family memories. But tucked away at the bottom of her purse was something she had completely forgotten about: a black Kel-Tec .380 handgun and four rounds of ammunition.

According to her later statements, Mary had no idea it was still in her bag. Somehow, despite Royal Caribbean’s normal boarding security procedures, the gun made it through without detection. It sounds unbelievable, right? But every now and then, human error slips through even the strictest systems. Have you ever discovered something in your own bag that you didn’t remember packing?
Unfortunately for Mary, her forgotten item wouldn’t stay hidden for long.
On December 2—just the second day of the cruise—Bahamian authorities discovered the gun in her purse as she attempted to re-board the ship in Nassau. Within minutes, the situation escalated. “On Tuesday, December 2nd police arrested a 69-year-old female of US nationality after she was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition,” the Royal Bahamas Police Force stated.
