Good morning! So, as I’ve been wandering around P&O Pacific Dawn this morning, I started thinking about a few little ways we can all stay a bit healthier while cruising. Cruises are such a great time, and the last thing anyone wants is to spend it feeling under the weather. So I thought I’d share some easy tips that I personally use to help keep the germs at bay while still enjoying everything onboard.
First up—handrails. I try to resist touching them as much as possible. You never really know how often they're cleaned, especially in high-traffic areas like staircases and hallways. If I do need to steady myself, I’ll sometimes use my sleeve or just take it slow and steady.
Another little trick is when you’re calling for the lift—try using the back of your hand or even your knuckle rather than your fingertips. It’s a small thing, but it reduces how often you’re touching surfaces that thousands of others are also pressing all day long.
Of course, we all know to use the antibacterial gel when entering the restaurants or lounges—and that’s super important—but don’t skip the warm, soapy water. When I pop into the public restrooms, I always make sure to give my hands a proper wash. Most of them have those sensor taps now, which is fantastic because it means one less thing you have to touch.
And if you happen to have a bit of a cough, make sure you’re coughing into the crook of your arm—not your hands. It really helps to stop any little bugs from getting passed around. If you're wearing long sleeves, you can also use your arm or sleeve to open doors, especially in busy shared areas.
So just a few easy habits: avoid the handrails when you can, use the back of your hand to call the lift, wash your hands properly with soap—not just the sanitizer—cough into your elbow, and use your sleeve for door handles if needed.
Just little things, but they make a big difference. Hope that helps you stay happy and healthy while cruising—see you out on deck!
