Explore Cairns With Carnival Splendor: Skyrail, Kuranda Village And Scenic Railway Excursion

The third Australian Port on the Carnival Splendor Sydney to Singapore Journey Cruise was Cairns. Cairns is considered to be the "Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef' but instead of doing one of the Reef-based excursions, we opted for the Rainforest. The tour started with a bus ride to the Skyrail, which included 3 stops. The first was a quick loop around the rainforest, which was very interesting. The second was a chance to walk out to a lookout that overlooked Barron Falls. The last was at Kuranda Village. I thought Kuranda Village looked like one big Gift Shop but in fact, there was a bunch of extra things we could do and look at that we didn't really have time for as we had to be back at the Train no later than 3.00pm. The Kuranda Scenic Railway trip back down to Cairns took around 2 hours and included some expansive vistas, close rainforest sections and a very slow ride over the famous Stoney Creek Bridge past the waterfall. I have left in some the train noises for the Train enthusiasts. After that, we caught another bus back to downtown Cairns, hoping off at the Night markets, followed by a walk back along the waterfront to the Cruise ship before it sailed away at 7pm. It should be noted here that we have skipped the Port Day at Airlie Beach as we had issues with a hard drive and lost all our footage from that day. This has never happened before, but stresses the importance of buying good gear.
