Onboard @celebritycruises Celebrity Eclipse, there are 8 Royal Suites and all are located adjacent to the aft elevator bank on Decks 10 and 11. In terms of size, they’re approximately the equivalent of 3 standard balcony staterooms. The extra real estate is immediately noticeable, with the expansive living room leading into a dining and wet bar zone.
The room contains an electric kettle and a lavazza espresso machine, with coffee pods and tea restocked daily. There’s a large variety of glassware for use, and additions can be requested.
The cupboards provide additional storage space and the bench will be utilised by your butler if you choose to have any of your main meals served in the suite. There are two bar fridges, and their contents are tailored to your personal preferences and can include beer, premium still and sparkling waters and more. These are complimentary and restocked daily. As an additional perk, you can select two bottles of spirits or wine and these will be in your suite when you board. The ice buckets were kept topped up throughout the cruise.
Eclipse was built in 2010, and its age was somewhat noticeable in places, including some of the wear and tear on the furniture as well as in the suite’s lack of up to date technology.
A bottle of Moet champagne care of the ship’s Hotel Director was also waiting in the room.
There’s plenty of storage, especially for 2 people.
Eclipse was due to have a complete refit which would have seen her staterooms and public spaces upgraded to match the new Edge Class amenities, but thanks to the pandemic, this has been postponed.
One of the great benefits of the Royal Suite is its separate bedroom. It really makes the suite feel more like an apartment. The king size bed is comfortable and there are a range of pillows available to suit your needs.
There’s a small vanity area with chair, plus one US and European style outlet. There are no other power outlets in the room, or USB slots, another sign of Eclipse’s age.
There’s a separate walk and spacious walk in-robe, that with the door closed provides plenty of room for manoeuvring in the space. There’s a digital lock safe, umbrellas as well as bathrobes. There were plenty of hangers and more can be supplied upon request.
The Royal Suite is part of the Upper Suite tier on Celebrity Cruises and that means there are a few extra perks to enjoy onboard. In addition to a butler and retreat hosts, guests of the Royal and Penthouse Suites receive unlimited complimentary specialty dining, specialty dining served in-room, and at least on Eclipse, unlimited complimentary laundry services.
The ensuite bathroom is a gigantic space. Bvlgari toiletries are supplied and restocked throughout your cruise. There’s a jetted jacuzzi tub plus a separate shower with a waterfall shower head.
A dual sink vanity with large mirrors is useful, although I found the position of the overhead lighting made it difficult to see clearly, and I imagine it might cause some issues for those that need to apply makeup. There was plenty of under counter storage.
Back into the living space, the second major perk of the Royal Suite is the second half bathroom. The additional toilet and basin are an appreciated addition to the suite.
Finally, we’ll take a look at the spacious balcony. There’s a table and chairs for outdoor dining, plus a large sun lounger. The absolute highlight of course, is the large jacuzzi tub. Outdoor tubs are a feature of only the Royal and Penthouse Suites onboard Eclipse, and on the newest Edge Class ships, the Royal Suite no longer features the outdoor jacuzzi.
