I am attempting to uphold intermittent fasting while embarking on a 10-day cruise. I have previously followed a carnivore or ketovore diet, it offers unique challenges and irresistible temptations encountered during cruising.
Throughout the cruise, which encompassed two sea days, four-port days, and three additional sea days, I found that maintaining intermittent fasting was relatively straightforward on sea days. I achieved this by postponing their breakfast until around 10:30 or 11:00 am. However, port days presented a different challenge. With early excursions planned, I decided to break my fast at approximately 8:00 am to avoid the discomfort of hunger during these activities. This departure from my usual fasting schedule was quite significant, as I haven’t consumed breakfast that early in nearly 150 days of intermittent fasting.
Despite their best intentions to adhere to a low-carb diet, the temptations onboard the cruise ship proved to be formidable foes. I confess to indulging in cake, ice cream, and Grand Marnie Souffle, favourite dessert. My dietary preferences have evolved over time and now unfortunately the cruise ship's food options no longer align with my current choices.
While intermittent fasting is technically feasible on a cruise, it may demand additional discipline and self-control, especially when confronted with the allure of delectable foods. I must underscore the importance of getting back on track when you stray from your health journey, emphasizing that such deviations are merely a part of the broader lifestyle change they are undergoing. Notably, despite the culinary challenges faced, I appreciate for the cruise experience, even though it has catalyzed a significant shift in their palate and food preferences.
Health and dietary choices can evolve over time and may not always align with the convenience and availability of food options in certain settings. I hope to highlight the need for adaptability and resilience when striving to maintain specific dietary practices while enjoying special occasions or travel experiences. Ultimately, my journey serves as a valuable narrative for individuals seeking to balance their health goals with the enjoyment of unique experiences like cruises.
