Hey everyone, it's Jules here from "Jules Cruise Companion," and today I'm giving you a cabin tour of stateroom 11245 aboard the P&O Pacific Encounter. Excuse my hoarse voice—it’s been quite the trip! We're in an inside cabin, and when you're coming down the corridor, it can be tricky to know exactly which cabin is yours. For us, we used a small red light near our door as a marker, which was super helpful for finding our way back. This cabin tour is coming a bit late, since today is actually the day before disembarkation, so things are a bit tidier than usual.
As you enter the room, you're greeted by the standard evacuation map on the back of the door—important to know, especially as we're stationed at Muster A. On your left, you’ll find the main light switches for the cabin and a neat little sign you can flip for privacy or to request housekeeping. Heading into the walk-in wardrobe area, there’s a sensor light that pops on whenever there’s movement—quite handy! Now, we’ve got a bit of a travel difference here: I don’t unpack. I prefer to keep everything in packing cubes, while my cruise buddy likes to hang her clothes up. Everyone’s got their style!
Next up, the bathroom. Like most cruise ship bathrooms, there’s a step up to accommodate the plumbing underneath. It’s a small space, featuring just a step-in shower with adjustable water flow. But let me tell you, it’s tiny! The water flow is okay, but I brought along a little shower brush to help out with areas that the water doesn’t naturally hit. There’s also a handy clothesline, which I use to hang my pajamas after showering, but it can be used for swimwear, too.
Back to the wardrobe—there’s a safe in there for those who want to stow away valuables. We didn’t use it on this three-night cruise, though, since we kept our important items hidden in our usual spots. There’s also a full-length mirror, which is great for checking yourself before heading out. I bring magnets to hang on the walls and utilize vertical space; it helps me stay organized with things like my day bag and cruise card.
I like my room cold, so I’ve set the air conditioning to the lowest setting. My cruise buddy knows this about me, so she always brings along her fleece and even her own pillow for extra comfort. I’ve borrowed one of her extra pillows to prop under my legs at night—it’s been a lifesaver for better sleep! On the bedside table, you’ll see my medication and a few travel essentials, as well as the daily paperwork we get from the cruise.
Because we’re in an inside cabin, there’s no natural light, so one cool trick is to leave the TV on the ship’s bridge camera. That way, when the sun rises outside, the TV screen brightens, and it mimics the effect of waking up to daylight. It’s a clever way to stay in tune with the time of day while inside. Each bedside station comes equipped with a USB port, which is great for keeping all our devices charged. I’m not sure how it would work with something like a CPAP machine, but I imagine you’d need to position it near the power outlet.
As for the sleeping arrangements, we’ve got twin beds because I’m sharing with my cruise buddy. If you were traveling as a couple, the bed would be pushed together, with bedside cabinets on the outer edges. We’ve had an incredible time during this cruise, even though our cabin looks a bit messy after a couple of days. My shoes are tucked away under the bed, ready to grab as we head out.
Tomorrow is disembarkation day, and we’re doing a walk-off. We’ve got it all planned: wake up at 6:00 AM, breakfast at 7:00, and off the ship by 8:30. The pier at Brisbane International Cruise Terminal is super easy to navigate, so we expect to be off quickly. No customs checks are involved for this trip, just the usual clearances before we disembark.
And that wraps up the tour of cabin 11245 on the P&O Pacific Encounter. It’s been an amazing few days, even if the cabin looks a little lived in. Thanks for coming along with me on this tour—until next time, happy cruising!
